I found a fossil - now what?

As you explore the Bass Coast of Victoria, you might be lucky enough to find a fossil, whether that be a snippet of bone, or a dinosaur footprint.

Please do not attempt to remove the fossil from its location. You will most probably destroy it in the attempt.

Instead, enable GPS on your phone, and take a photo with something for scale, such as a foot or a finger. Then take some photos of the view from the fossil site so that you can find it again.

Then contact us or Museums Victoria and we can arrange to collect the fossil legally and safely.
